Recently, China Light Industry Federation announced the list of science and technology awards in 2023. The project "Development and Application of Efficient Testing Methods and Equipment for Degradation Performance of Biodegradable Plastic Products" won the Third Prize of Science and Technology Progress of China Light Industry Federation in 2023. The project was jointly completed by Pacli, Nanjing Xiaozhuang College, Nanjing Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Institute, Nanjing Forestry University, and Jiangsu Suce Intelligent Equipment Testing Co.

The award-winning project is based on the Terahertz broad-spectrum peak area calibration method to determine the final aerobic biodegradation capacity of PLA biodegradable materials under controlled composting conditions. The use of terahertz spectroscopy for degradation testing of biodegradable plastic products can lead to the development of a highly efficient degradation testing method that can be applied to laboratory environments, industrial and agricultural composting environments, and daily storage environments, which can improve the testing efficiency by a factor of nearly 100.
